I am interested in the uncomfortableness / pain of existing in a (gendered) body

Jen Ward is a London-based artist working across painting, drawing and collage. Her work constructs an autobiographical visual language using dolls, domestic objects and makeshift architectures to stage memory and interior space.

The body is treated as a site where desire meets constraint. Figures are fragmented, suspended or erased; words surface and are scrubbed out. Recurring images of the mouth and throat mark the limits of speech and the pressure of what cannot be said.

Through cutting, layering and repair, Ward uses material failure to expose the unstable structures through which identity and the gendered body are produced.
