Jennifer Ward's works across painting, drawing and collage, constructing theatrical scenes populated by dolls, fragmented figures and domestic objects. Her practice is a phenomenological investigation of female embodiment — the discomfort of existing in a gendered body, the restrictions placed upon it, and memory as an invasive force.

Dolls and puppet-like figures carry the residue of female containment — and the uncanny persistence of those systems in the present.

The mouth and throat recur as physical sites of blockage— where trauma accumulates but cannot fully be released. This frozenness spreads through the body itself: figures appear suspended mid-gesture, partially erased, enacting the female experience of in / visibleness.

An alter ego pops throughout: a naked yellow figure with pink hair, representing sex and distraction.

Cutting, layering and removal register the labour of destruction and repair alongside the blankness of memories and the missing.
